He said, “Peace, Peace be still.”
Lifts His Hands…
“Peace be still.”
Like a child, the winds obeyed Him
When He said, “Peace Be Still.”
These are words of an old southern gospel chorus that I have heard Candy Hemphill- Christmas sing many many times. Truth be told, it has been many many times thanks to my Pandora Gaither station and YouTube..lol.
Anyway, it has always ministered to me seemingly during ‘those times’ when the seas are the most turbulent in my life; those times when if one more thing comes at me I’m just going to walk the plank and call it done.
I’m reminded that there was a time in the Bible where God calmed the seas for fishermen. He was asleep on a boat with fishermen during a bad storm. The winds and waves were thrashing and the men woke Jesus in a panic and said (paraphrased of course), “heyyy Jesus, do you not know that there’s a storm and we’re about to die and HOW CAN YOU SLEEP IN A TIME LIKE THIS?!?!?”
Jesus reached His hands out and the storms calmed immediately. He didn’t have to turn on the “great and powerful wizard of Oz” voice to calm the storm… tho He could have. Instead, He reached His Hands out and the storm ceased!
I/we should find comfort in knowing that if, or I should say, that SINCE the seas, lightning, thunder and winds can stop instantly just by a wave of His Hands as an act of obedience to the One that created them to begin with…I should do the same.
God’s got this…He is in control of this ship called my life; not me! He’s not going to toss me out into the ocean to sink or swim; which is great bc I don’t know how to swim and that’s another story for another day..haha!
He’s guiding me through calm AND rough waters and those times when things are tossing me around all I have to do is call on Him and He can stretch out His hands and calm the storm.
